Cord blood is rich in stem cells and easier to match than adult bone marrow because the immune cells are not developed. Also, patients can get the treatment in about three weeks -- as opposed to six to eight for bone marrow from an adult donor, said Laughlin, founder and medical director of the Cleveland Cord Blood Center. The Campbell Brown show will air the medical breakthrough piece with Dr. Laughlin and The Cleveland Cord Blood Center Monday March 1st during the 8p hour (Eastern time).

On Saturday July 11th at Cuyahoga Community College Metro campus gymnasium KEM Cancer Foundation, Eighty81 Entertainment, and Team 20 Foundation present the 2nd Annual Cancer Awareness Basketball game. University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic, the Cleveland Cord Blood Center, and Be the Match (formerly The National Donor Marrow Program) will be setting up tables at the event. The game will start at 12:30pm and admission is a $10 donation.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's "Light the night walk" had an incredible turnout in Cleveland, Ohio. The KEM Cancer Foundation came out to participate in the event which was an enjoyable family affair.
